Tell us about yourself

I am a 43-year-old businesswoman and mother of two children. I am in Form Four and Class 7. I live in Lucky Summer, Baba Dogo area in Nairobi and own a shop where I sell second-hand carpets, curtains and shears, blankets and doormats.

What are you most proud of?

I am proud of the fact that my business has grown to the point that I now own three plots in Lucky Summer area. My debut in this business started back in 2008. I used to hawk my items in markets and residential areas as I could not afford to pay for space to sell my items. When my business peaked, I was able to rent a shop in Baba Dogo and pay rent every month. The income from my business has gone a long way in enabling me to get more stock to grow my business. In a week, I can manage to buy 2 bales worth of items hence ensuring my customers have a variety of items. I am also able to educate my children with the income my business yields. I hope that my business can continue to grow so I can acquire more property in order that I may be assured of a secure financial future for my family.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned with The Pangea Network?

The business skills training was of importance to me because I can now market my products in platforms such as Whatsapp. For me to get customers, I need to let them know of the products I sell. I can also account for money spent and also calculate profits and this is where the training of Profit and Loss I got from Pangea training comes in handy. I have also obtained a loan from Pangea which I used to expand my business. I am grateful to Pangea for giving me this knowledge that is directly applicable to my business and the support they give us to ensure our businesses are successful.
