The Pangea Network is excited to announce Mitchel Adhiambo of Buru Buru Girls, one of our sponsored students and February 2016’s Sponsored Student of the Month, earned honors during the 5th Annual DStv Eutelsat Star Awards, organized by MultiChoice and Eutelsat. According to Mworia Muchina of Nation Media in Kenya, Mitchel was “among 2,000 others from 18 countries in Africa who participated in the competition.”
The competition was open to students aged 14-19 under the theme: How satellites have helped us understand and take care of our planet.

Mitchel submitted a poster illustrating a satellite transmitting information to researchers. She says “drawing is my talent which I would like to utilize to enlighten young people,” also adding that she wants to be an architect in the future.  Her poster was prized Best in Kenya, for which she received an iPad and installation of a MultiChoice Resource Center in her school.

Mitchel received her award during a ceremony where ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru and the French ambassador to Kenya were present. Also present was astronaut Paolo Nespoli, who demonstrated a satellite launch. In regards to her award, Mitchel said “I would have been happier if I had won the top prize and got a chance to tour Paris, but since this is my first time to win a competition, I will try next year and I hope I will emerge the top in Africa.”

Congratulations Mitchel from The Pangea Network – we are so very proud of you!
