Tell us about yourself

Margaret Adhiambo Athero
I am 54 years old, mother of three children aged 16, 8, and 6. I am also a businesswoman who sells second-hand clothes in the Sirembe market in Siaya County. I started this business in 2005 and I have seen it grow over the years.

What are you most proud of?

I am proud of my life, family, and how my business has grown. Through my business, I am able to provide for my family’s needs even though I am a widow. Being the sole breadwinner, I strive to ensure my children do not lack their basic needs by ensuring I make a profit in my business. Even through the challenges, I have made sure there is always food on the table and invest in their education.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned with The Pangea Network?

The most important lesson I learnt with Pangea Network is Business Management. I learnt how to deal with customers better and how to minimize my costs so as to make huge profits. Bookkeeping has greatly helped me in ensuring this and I can account for my business and personal money. I also learnt that I should pay myself a salary from the business. Previously, I used to think that all profit is for my personal use. That is why my business took time to grow.
