Rose runs a restaurant (or ‘hotel’ as they are called in Kenya) in one of the most industrial areas in Nairobi. She is from the informal settlement of Mukuru and with the Pangea grant she received after training, she was able to build and improve her business. She has 4 children, all of whom she can now comfortably keep in school thanks to the Pangea training impacting her business.
Her favorite trainings focused on business and book-keeping; she even has 3 employees who cook for her during the day and can have more than 60 people turn up for lunch. Rose has expanded her business, moved locations, and diversified her offerings. Before Pangea, she would take a small bag of home cooking to sell on the road – now she has 4 full tables where guests can enjoy her meals. With knowledge of marketing, book-keeping and savings, Rose is changing her life and the lives of her children. As the main provider, she feels comfortable with her ability to provide and confident about her children’s futures.
She wants to tell other members of Pangea “they should work together as a team. When you have a business, whatever you are doing, be passionate about it, love what you do, and work hard and give it your best so you make it in life.”
“My business has enabled me to be self-reliant. I pay school fees for my children with my profits and can clothe them comfortably. Pangea has helped me build my business and to expand it to what it is today.”
