Tell us about yourself

I am a 40-year-old mother of four children. I am also a farmer and businesswoman selling cereals, cooking oil, sugar, fruits and other farm produce.

What are you most proud of?

I was able to change my ways of operation from just doing subsistence farming to commercial farming. This idea came after the lessons I obtained on business, and that anything one does could be their source of income. I am proud of the fact that I am able to substitute some of the family’s income with the profits I earn from selling my farm produce. My children’s education is guaranteed as school fees are not a major worry right now. I plan to do large scale farming so I can satisfy the demand for certain farm produce in my local area and surrounding regions.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned with The Pangea Network?

I benefited most from the lessons on Business Management. Sometimes, some of the goods I sell have low demand. In order to maintain the same level of profit, I diversify my products. During such times, I bring what the customers want at different times. This requires me to have a keen ear and listen to and respond to their demands. When my crops are not yet mature in the fields, I deal mostly with selling rice, sugar, and cooking oil. In addition, hygiene standards in my home have greatly improved as a result of every member of my household partaking in cleaning exercises. I encourage other women to apply the knowledge they have received and those yet to receive it. They should have an open mind when getting education from organizations such as The Pangea Network, since they exist for the benefit of the women and community at large.
