Evalyn Moraa
As an organization, The Pangea Network strives to see that the women they encounter are empowered and they can use the knowledge given to them not only in their daily lives, but also in their businesses. When their businesses do well, they have the ability to take on the next challenge that comes their way. One such woman is Evalyn of Ngomongo Tailoring Woman Cooperative in Nairobi.
Initially, Evalyn only had a posho mill, a cereal milling business in Lucky Summer area in Baba Dogo, Nairobi, Kenya. Her business was and still is doing well. At some point, she had saved up money in order to start a toilet paper supply business. Unfortunately, she suffered a setback when she was robbed of the money that she was planning to use to start the business last year. This took her back to the drawing board to re-strategize on what to do next.
During the business evaluation visit conducted during the month of March 2017, we found that Evalyn has greatly improved in terms of business. In addition to her posho mill, she has now opened a grocery shop next to it. There happen to be frequent blackouts in the area where she operates her businesses. Since her posho mill runs on electricity, she sometimes losses income as a result of these frequent blackouts. She decided to open the grocery in order to ensure there is always income from one or both of her businesses at any given time. They say necessity is the mother of invention, so she started the grocery business from the revolving funds she took from [The] Pangea [Network]. She is a true example of a Pangea Woman whose life is changing for the better.
