“The life I touch for good or ill will touch another life, and that in turn another, until who knows when the trembling stops or in what far place my touch will be felt.”
Frederick Buechner
Connection! Pangea is the definition of connectedness across the globe…from you as supporters to our women partners and team in Kenya, to our young rising leaders stateside. It is each person’s participation in this network that matters in how we impact the world around us, each contributor as valuable and necessary as the next.
As a testament to the power of connection, here is a message from one of our young leaders; 2018 – 2019 Young Women’s Leadership Challenge (YWLC) participant, Ziana, a 10th grader at the Awty International School in Houston, TX.
Each participant in YWLC creates a year-long service project, called their Take Action Challenge (TAC). Ziana chose to utilize social media to create worldwide connection through promoting self-care, mental stability and happiness. She shows us that every connection, large or small, is impactful. Every action, whether using social media, or in a one-on-one meeting with a mentor, contributes to connection and change.
My TAC project “@happyhere_____,” was inspired by my love for writing and how empowered I feel when I am learning new things. Through my participation at the YWLC conference over the summer, I felt like I needed to share my knowledge with others. It gave me the inspiration to create an Instagram page, @happyhere__ that spreads awareness about the power of self-care and the need for maintaining stable mental health. This combination ultimately provides the platform to be happy.
So far, I have 80+ followers and been noticed by reputable accounts who reinforce my posts on a regular basis. I attribute my accomplishments to the power of connecting with the community and networking. It is very important to success, especially through social media. Initially, it felt hard and scary to reach out to people. I quickly learned that talking to the community is a great way to get advice and learn new things!
My Pangea mentor, Adison, helped me a lot through the process. The mentor relationship is a powerful connection. Talking to her was a great way to brainstorm different ideas and get advice on trying new things. I really appreciate having someone there to help me throughout my TAC journey.
A Note from Our Founder, Nicole
Happy April! I want to reinforce Ziana’s message, our connection is so powerful. We are all connected and our actions have an impact on many. What we say, what we do and how we show up really does matter. Your generous donations gave opportunity to a local high school student to participate in YWLC. A mentor helped her through the creation and implementation of her service project and she now has @happyhere__ on Instagram uplifting countless lives daily. As always, Thank You for being a Champion for so many!
